The Futire of Computers

※ What is Moore’s Law?

◎The data density of storable information on a silicon circuit, and the corresponding computing speed, is doubling every 18 to 24 months.

※What is quantum computing and its two application?

◎Information would not be stored as strings of “1”s and “0”s, but as a series of quantum mechanical states: spin direction of electrons or polarization orientations of photons.
◎Could hold more than one bit of information.
◎Making lightning-fast searches through a database or breaking codes or encryptions.

※What are the two obstacles of quantum computing? How to overcome this problem?

◎The slightest outside disturbance, such as heat or light, can destroy the balance of the quantum states.(Working with slow and frozen light has further advanced the possibilities of quantum computing.)
◎Will naturally tend to collect errors.(Spreading information over several qubits so that the erroneous decay of one of the quantum states will not cause information loss.)

※How does slow and frozen light advance the possibilities of quantum computing?

◎In this technique, light is passed through clouds of sodium atoms which have been supercooled to the almost absolutely zero.
